Oh. My. I am so in love with this little guy.

Litany
By Billy Collins

You are the bread and the knife,
the crystal goblet and the wine.
You are the dew on the morning grass
and the burning wheel of the sun.
You are the white apron of the baker,
and the marsh birds suddenly in flight.

However, you are not the wind in the orchard,
the plums on the counter,
or the house of cards.
And you are certainly not the pine-scented air.
There is just no way that you are the pine-scented air.

It is possible that you are the fish under the bridge,
maybe even the pigeon on the general's head,
but you are not even close
to being the field of cornflowers at dusk.

And a quick look in the mirror will show
that you are neither the boots in the corner
nor the boat asleep in its boathouse.

It might interest you to know,
speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world,
that I am the sound of rain on the roof.

I also happen to be the shooting star,
the evening paper blowing down an alley
and the basket of chestnuts on the kitchen table.

I am also the moon in the trees
and the blind woman's tea cup.
But don't worry, I'm not the bread and the knife.
You are still the bread and the knife.
You will always be the bread and the knife,
not to mention the crystal goblet and--somehow--the wine.

And here's Billy Collins himself.

Persepolis is the next graphic novel I want to read.

My Books to read list is ever growing. Right now, sitting in a teetering stack at the edge of my bedside table are:

1. The Gay Provider
The MYER story
Alan Marshall

2. Wisdom from the Earth
The Living Legacy of the Aboriginal Dreamtime
Anna Voigt & Neville Drury

3. The Bird
A natural history of who birds are, where they came from, and how they live
Colin Tudge

4. Modern Patterns of Japan
Paper, Kimono and Clothing
Yonagadou

5. Robbing the Bees
A Biography of honey
Hollet Bishop

6. A Short History of Chinese Philosophy
Fung Yu-Lan

When will I ever have the time to just sit and read 'em all?

Meet Lotte. Nothing like a potted houseplant to provide instant charm to a room. It's taken me too long to discover you, Belle fleur de lis, but I shall visit often because you provide the much needed calm in my manic existence. [via make it easy]. Blog crush indeed.

And hell yeah hello sandwich is reminding me of that time when I was in Beppu. But I'm late to the party. Japanese suburbs and the endless visual surprises they hold (and hide!) keep me intrigued all the time. Japanese design goodness is the awesomes!
